Feb. 12 Isla Vista Show!

Just found out we're playing a show Feb 12 w/ Stephen Steinbrink, Foot Ox, and James Fella at the MIKE BARN, which is a house at 6738 Trigo Rd. Hope to See you there!

Also, stumbled across the work of Morgan O'Hara:
Movement of the hands of
Conductor Riccardo Chailly
while conducting the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Mahler's Symphony No 4.
first movement
Carnegie Hall, New York City
10 February 2000

I think it's interesting how the above drawing compares to this one:
Movement of the hands of
Composer Pierre Boulez
while conducting the London Symphony Orchestra
in Stravinsky's Petrouchka /

Biko Show

Thanks to everyone who braved the blustery winds last night to come and enjoy the Biko concert! There was a great turnout, and the audience (as always) was so enthusiastic and appreciative. We forgot to take photos, so I will leave you with this seasonal (and regional) haiku:

Drunken revelry
Isla Vista Halloween
Sirens scream all night

Happy Halloween!

A Field of Whales

So we're going to have at least one new song for the show on the 28th! I'm working on a piece inspired by an experience on a research trip from which I recently returned. We were on a ship sailing down the coast of California. One foggy afternoon, we found ourselves surrounded by at least 50 (probably more) whales, surfacing to breathe, then settling back down into the water. It was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen; whales rising and falling, sending sprays of breath into the misty air all around us. I wish I was a better photographer and could have captured the scale and beauty of the entire group, but I did manage this shot of a whale's tail as it slipped under the surface.
